‘I See, You See’ the new Free Rangers book offers many ways to explore literacy. The story can be read and adapted to suit children’s different ages and abilities, enjoyed as a whole or broken down into smaller parts. A rhyming story with repeated refrains make it the perfect choice to turn into an action story…watch this space! The wonderful images by Kate Daubney offer an exploratory quality where children are drawn into the scenes to find the smaller images in an ‘I spy book’ style! The images that accompany Hedgehog on his travels lead you through the book on a journey through the countryside, city, farm, river and back home to Hedgehogs house.
In the Den our children were given envelopes containing small images from the book to explore. Learning through their senses they handled them carefully. Recognising them from the story the children were keen to match them to the larger images. They became busily involved, in charge of their own learning they looked closely, recognising, naming, describing, matching and drawing on their own experiences, making links and sharing them with each other.
‘I See, You See’ offers ideas to grow from the book too!
