In the Burrow we love to get messy and have lots of fun exploring our senses!
We have had a great time playing with flour and having a big flour fight in the Burrow! Some parents may have seen the chaos that the flour made in the Burrow at the end of the day, but as long as we have fun we don’t worry about the mess we make!
The children all got really involved, throwing flour at each other and watching it fly around the room. Flour is such an easy resource to allow children the freedom to explore different textures with their hands. As well as being a sensory experience the children have really been building up their social skills recently and we found the flour fight really showed the bonds that have been developed. The children enjoyed throwing flour around but also had to really think about their boundaries so they did not upset peers. For example if one child did not want flour on them the others would have to carefully think about their actions before doing so.
When children are developing, learning through their senses is one of the most important ways for them to learn about different things. Another way the children have been exploring their senses is through the play dough! Play Dough is always successful in the Burrow as our toddlers are old enough to use their imaginations and extend their own learning and development. This week we have had red, cinnamon play dough and last week we had brown chocolate play dough and this allowed the children to smell, and touch the play dough which soon became, sausages and worms and snails among other creative things ideas.
We have also explored the great textures of shaving foam, by creating a shaving foam animal kingdom! The children loved role playing with the animals and the shaving foam added an extra layer to the play, as the animals had to move through the foam and get very messy themselves!
Overall, what a great few weeks we have had in the Burrow, we are always looking for new ideas in the Burrow, the messier the better! A parent recently send us a link with some great ideas for messy play and hopefully we can try some of these out in the future!
Feel free to have a look at the link and if you have any ideas yourselves, let us know as we are always willing to try new things that the children will love!
