Hello everyone. We’ve been exploring using natural materials this week, talking about what we can draw and looking at what we’ve made with our marks.
A few weeks ago we explored making fires using our fire steel and cotton wool, so to continue with our fire theme we’ve decided to mark making using charcoal.
Before we started our activity we spoke to the children about what we will be doing, introducing them to all the materials which included kitchen roll and charcoal (that is all we needed, how simple!). We asked the children if they could say the word and what they else they think the materials might be used for, one child said “water in kitchen”.
During the activity we seen lots of mark making using our fine motor skills, holding the charcoal and dragging this along the kitchen towel. There was lots of imagination and speech, talking about what we have drawn and what we might want to draw. Alongside mark making we did some hammering, placing a bit of charcoal between two pieces of towel and hitting it with a big hammer! Our achievement was making different types of marks which we may not be able to make using our little hands!
After the activity we shown the children all the different marks we had made and told them what we will be doing with them. I will be making a display in our forest school display which is located under our display board inside the Burrow.
Next week Lou will be joining us again to make fires and toast marshmallows!
Thanks for reading,
