We’ve been open for over 2 years now so it’s time we took a breath to reflect on the journey…

Back in 2011, we only had a handful of Free Rangers, now our waiting lists grow and we find ourselves in the position of thinking of creative ways in which we can cater for the needs of yet more Free Range families.

Over this time we’ve been noticed by others for exemplary practice, resulting in an Outstanding Ofsted report, a Nursery World Runners Up Award and a Royal Forestry Society Award.

Free Rangers’ Head Quarters itself has seen a few changes, namely the refurbishment of the office block and the new staff room that runs adjacent to the main nursery building. The Den (pre-school) can now offer more peg space (not terribly exciting but crucially important), Ed (Red-Fox) has been relocated to the old office and The Burrow (toddlers) now have a washing machine and kitchenette area to cater for their needs, no matter how messy.

From a virtual point of view we’ve invested heavily in our ability to move all children’s learning diaries online. Thanks to a newly formed relationship with Create Development, we have co-written The EYFS Wheel, a tool to enable us to better meet your child’s individual learning needs.

Perhaps the most visual changes have happened outside in the Paddock. Both structures, namely The Fort and The Log Cabin are now finished and will provide endless learning opportunities all year round.

Looking forward, we still dream big, and yet focus on how we can develop Free Rangers’ facilities and learning environment to provide our families with the level of care and learning they have come to expect from us.
